A preliminary Investigation on the Mechanism of Soil-box foundation-superstructure Interaction of Highrise Buildings, and A simplified calculating Method by use of “Hinged Elastic Bars”

    • The soil-box foundation-superstructure interaction has two different stages. The range when the building is constructed to a height HI≤ 0.3L is the first stage, during which the box foundation acts as a beam resting on an clastic medium of soil. The range when the building is constructed higher than 0.3L is the second stage, during which an "arch action" presents in the superstructure, and a plastic flow is found in the soil medium, which reduces the bending stress in the box foundation.
The authors offer a simplified calculating method capable of considering the effects of interaction, by use of "hinged elastic bars".
