Abstract
To study the control efficiency of a shape memory alloy (SMA) pseudo-rubber metal (PRM) damper on a seismic pounding of a high-pier bridge,based on El Centro,Taft,and artificial ground motions,seismic pounding shaking testing and seismic pounding shaking table testing of a high-pier bridge steel model are carried out.The control efficiency of an SMA PRM damper is analyzed in detail.Results show that SMA PRM possesses favorable damping behavior,and its stiffness becomes large with increasing distortion.It can effectively mitigate the seismic pounding in high-pier bridges,and play a role in resisting drift between the main and the approach bridges.An SMA PRM damper is adapted to reduce seismic pounding devices and restrictor in high-pier and long span bridges.
