Actuality and Function of Hutong's Road Network in Beijing Old City

Being aimed at how to plan and design Hutong's road network in reconstruction of Beijing Old City, the actuality and characteristics of Hutong's raod network in Beijing Old City are analyzed and the problems of Hutong's road network are summarized by collecting data of Hutongs in 10 Historic Areas and 1 559 Hutongs in Old City. After the analysis, functions and normal design method of cross-section of Hutongs with different width are proposed, and then problems which should be noticed in reconstruction of Old City are brought forward. Result shows that Hutong can be used to achieve Old City alley traffic microcirculation and alleviate the current parking difficulties in the current situation.
