Abstract
In order to overcome the drawback of conventional femeral bypass grafting, a symmetrical configuration for bypass anastomosis was presented. The physiologically pulsatile blood flows in both a conventional and a symmetrical grafting models were simulated with computational fluid dynamics method, and the hemodynamics factors in these models were studied. The results show that the symmetrical model features with uniform distribution of flow patterns and wall shear stresses, ant it can improve the hemodynamics at the anastomosis area, which is favorable for decreasing the probability of intimal hyperplasia and restenosis.
