Macroscopic Evaluation on Urban Traffic Condition Using a Two-fluid Model

    • Evaluations on urban traffic condition of urban street network forms the basis of macroscopic characteristics analysis of urban transportation system. To solve the problem of data collection while quantifying the overall performance of road network, this paper presents a method of data collection to obtain total travel time, running and stop time per unit distance of vehicles traveling in network using the FCD(Floating Car Data).Map-matching is applied to calculate the travel speed of vehicle on the road link.A critical speed is employed to determine the vehicle state in order to establish the macroscopic evaluation methodology on the basis of two-fluid model. The field experiments were conducted in Beijing CBD area. The method reflects the general status of urban traffic condition and redounds to the improvement of the urban traffic management and the development of travelers information system.
