    Multiple Description Coding for Region of Interest Based on Redundant Transform

    • To improve the quality of images in image communication system over error prone channels, a multiple description coding (MDC) algorithm based on region of interest (ROI) by using redundant transform is proposed. Due to the independence of the transformed coefficients, redundant transform is combined with JPEG coding system o generate multiple descriptions. The number and choice of projections can be changed freely for the demand of encoding redundancy. To achieve better reconstructed image quality, the region of interest is taken into account. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is simply implemented and easier to extend than other MDC methods. It can improve the visual quality of the ROI.
