    Real-Time Evaluation Index of Traffic Conditions Based on Public Travel Perception Surveys and Estimation

    • In order to make up for the deficiency and improve the real time evaluations of traffic conditions on urban roads and corridors, the authors put forward the real-time evaluation method of road traffic condition index using floating car data, based on the comparative analyses of the public travel perception survey data and weighting estimates.They first collected the travel perception data at 1-minute interval and derived the comprehensive estimate results of the section travel perception by using travel time and travel distance as weighting factors.The results of comparing surveyed section perceptions with estimation results show that travelers are more sensitive to the travel time change under congested conditions.On this basis, the authors selected the link travel time as the weighting factor, and presented the comprehensive evaluation index of the road condition from link traffic condition indices.Finally, the authors evaluated the traffic conditions and congestion intensities of the western 2nd ring-road expressway and Badaling highway using the proposed method, which effectively demonstrated the practicability of the proposed index and method.
