Adsorption of Acid Fuchsine in Water by SOD-type Zeolite Synthesized From Fly Ash

    • SOD-type zeolite was synthesized from fly ash through a modified hydrothermal method. The phase and morphology of the synthesized sample was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).Performance for adsorption of acid fuchsine in water by the synthesized sample was investigated and comparative research on adsorption of acid fuchsine in water by the synthesized sample, quartz and fly ash was conducted in this study.Resultsindicate that the synthesized powder sample was well crystallized and the main phase was SOD-type zeolite, with minor quartz as impurity.Floating beads disappeared thoroughly in the synthesized sample, whose morphology was like beautiful petals. The synthesized sample could effectively adsorb acid fuchsine from aquatic environments. The fuchsine discoloration ratios increased by increasing synthesized sample dosage, contact time and by decreasing pH,respectively. The efficiency of adsorption of fuchsine by the synthesized sample was much better than that by fly ash and quartz.SOD-type zeolite in the synthesized sample was responsible for the fuchsine adsorption.
