Abstract
The characteristics of propagations of pulse waces in thoracic aortas and carotid arteries of three different dogs are studied, experimentally. One of them is the normal dog, another one is the disease dog with two small tumours on the thoracic aorta, and other one is the disease dog with a larger tumour and a smaller tumour on the thoracic aorta. In experimentation, the pressure and flowrate of the pulsatile flow in every artery are simultaneously measured by means of pressure tans-ducers of Polygraph System RM-6200 and flow probes of Electromagnetic Blood Flowmeter MFV-2100. And the characteristics of propagations of pressure pulse waves in an artery are evaluated by measuring pressure waveforms at the two ends of the artery. These results showed that for both the normal dog and the disease dog the general law of propagations of pulse waves in aortas is essentially the same, but the pressure and flowrate waveforms of aortas of the three dogs are of important difference; the pressure and flowrate waveforms of the carotid artery of a dog are closely correlative with that of its aorta. These results are very significative for biomedical engineering and clinical application.
