Abstract
To verify the applicability of the existing methods of compressive arch action (CAA) against progressive collapse in engineering scale, a fully detailed numerical model of a reinforced concrete continuous beam using the finite element software LS-DYNA was established. The reliability of this model was verified through existing experiments. Nine full-scale structural models were then numerically modeled based on this validated model, taking into account commonly used section heights, spans, and steel ratios in engineering practice. Research findings indicate that as the steel ratio increases, the enhancing effect of CAA on structural resistance to progressive collapse gradually diminishes. Furthermore, within a span-to-height ratio range of 9-12, there is an increase in enhancement provided by CAA for resisting progressive collapse; however, within a span-to-height ratio range of 12-15, the enhancing effect diminishes.
