Analysis of Traffic Behavior Characteristics of Terminal Area Using Wi-Fi Probe Data——A Case Study of Yuetan Block in Xicheng District, Beijing

    • To reasonably evaluate the characteristics of individual traffic behavior of the block, make up for the inadequacy of previous research on related theories from the perspective of human behavior, this paper proposed an innovative method to study the crowd activity in the urban small block and identify the travel characteristics of the human in the terminal area. The method was based on Wi-Fi probe technology and supplemented by road condition data and video collection data. Yuetan block, a block in Xicheng district of Beijing was as a case study to verify the applicability of this method by analyzing the characteristics of travel distribution of public travel, travel time of connecting terminal, connecting travel mode and travel path preference of unit members. Results show that the public travel time of this block is less than 5 min, and the public accessibility is good. The subway station has significant attraction to the location of the 1 km path in this block. Pedestrians prefer to choose the road with spacious conditions and comfortable environment. The road section traffic reduction index of the Wi-Fi probe technology is 17-23. In the future, the increase of Wi-Fi coverage density will effectively improve the accuracy of data analysis and provide strong support for the design and management decisions of the blocks.
