Laboratory Evaluation of Waste Cooking Oil-based Bio-oil Modified Asphalt Binders

    • To investigate the feasibility of bio-oil generated from waste cooking oil as anti-aging agent for the petroleum asphalt, the 90# control asphalt binder and the bio-oil produced by waste cooking oil were selected. The bio-oil modified asphalt binders were obtained according to the high speed blend tests. The road performance of the control asphalt binder and bio-oil modified asphalt binders were evaluated using the dynamic sheer rheometer and bending beam rheometer. Results show that with the increase of the bio-oil content, bio-oil modified binders present better fatigue performance and low temperature performance than the control asphalt binder, while the bio-oil modified binders show a worse rutting resistance than the control asphalt binder.
