Influence of Land Use Mixture on Travel Mode Choice

    • To study the influence of the land use mixture on travel mode choice, a coaction method was proposed to measure the degree of land use mixture, which was a method based on geographic information system (GIS). By extracting the public edges between different land use categories and arranging the corresponding weights, the land use mixture index of each traffic analysis zone was further quantitatively calculated. Furthermore, the data from the household travel survey was used to estimate the models and analyze the land-use effects on travel mode choice by STATA.Finally, the proposed coaction method was found to be significant in explaining travel behavior, which indicated that the mixing of complementary land uses could help guide residents to choose non-motorized modes. The result provides a theory basis for urban planning and traffic management policy making.
