Advance Cuide Sign Design Considering the Guidance Demand of Indirect Reached Freeway Information

    • To meet guidance demand of indirect reached freeway in road network developed areas, and to solve several key design issues including road name, place name information quantity threshold and road name information layout, reaction time data was obtained through the static cognitive experiment with road name and place name combined cognitive tasks. The conclusion based on repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) is dawn the quantity of place name and road name have a significant effect on the drivers' reaction time, and have interactions between them while the road name information layout has no significant effect. The quantity threshold of the place name under the condition of 1-4 road names was further studied, they were 6, 6, 5 and 4 under the conditions of single, double, three and four road name respectively. Results show that the numbers of road and place name should not exceed the threshold as the advance guide sign.
