Dual-band Low Noise Amplifier With Multiple Gain-Tunability and Low Power Consumption

    • A dual-band low noise amplifier with multiple gain-tunability (MGT-DBLNA) was designed and implemented in order to satisfy the wireless communication standard of WLAN and novel WIFI. A serial-parallel resonant filter network was used at the input stage to achieve dual-band input impedance matching. A combination of an active inductor and a current reuse circuit with adjustable bias voltage port was employed at the amplifier stage to tune gain separately and combinationally to lower power consumption. A controllable buffer constituted by a current mirror and a common collector amplifier was utilized to further tune gain. Based on WIN 0.2μm GaAs HBT process library, The verification results show that the MGT-DBLNA has tunable gain ( S 21) ranges of 3.9~12.3dB and 12.6-20.2dB respectively at frequencies of 2.4GHz and 5.2GHz by multiple gain-adjustment methods. Both input return loss ( S 11) and output return loss ( S 22) are less than -10.0dB, the noise figure (NF) are less than 3.4dB. With the supply voltage of 5.0V, the static power consumption is less than 20.0mW. The proposed MGT-DBLNA provides a large tunable-gain range and consumes lower power at the same time.
