Influence on the Surface Dynamic Viscoelastic Deflection of Interlayer Bonding Condition

    • In order to learn the effect of interlayer bonding condition on surface deflection, software ABAQUS was adapted to do dynamic viscoelastic analysis for asphalt pavement with semi-rigid base and flexible base, asphalt concrete was considered as viscoelastic material and the load was falling weight deflectometer (FWD) load in the process. Surface deflection time-history curve under any interlayer smooth condition was calculated and compared with the results under all interlayers bonded for the same asphalt pavement. Results indicate that interlayer bonding condition has significant influence on the surface deflection for the multiple layers structure. The conditions between surface and base has a significant influence on a content to 50%, the influence has a relationship with the location where smooth occurs. It can be concluded that for mechanical response analysis of the asphalt pavement, the interlayer condition should be considered, especially for the assessment and modulus back-calculation process.
