Impact of Alkanolamines on Dissolution Properties of Ground Iron and Steel Slag

    • To solve the problem of lower hydration activities of ground iron and steel slag (GISS) caused by its lower solubility, the dissolution properties of ground iron and steel slag influenced by triethanolamine (TEA), triisopropanolamine (TIPA) and diethanol-isopropanolamine (DEIPA) in the alkaline environment were investigated. Conductivity meter, pH meter, inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) and eight-channel isothermal calorimetry meter were used to perform the dissolution properties of ground iron and steel slag. Results show that three types of alkanolamines enhanced the conductivity in the aqueous phase of ground iron and steel slag and reduced the pH. The main performance concludes that the main concentration of Fe、Ca、Al elements in the aqueous phase are promoted by alkanolamines, the impact of TEA and DEIPA are more effective than that of TIPA; alkanolamines accelerated the heat of dissolution and the maximum exothermic peak of hydration, which farther confirms that the dissolution of ground iron and steel slag is accelerated by alkanolamines.
