Kinematics Model for Tooth-skipped External Gear Honing

    • To solve the mid-concaved profile problem, a new honing process that uses an improved worm honing wheel was proposed based on the tooth-skipped gear meshing principle. It is called tooth-skipped external gear honing. Utilizing the kinematics principle, the kinematics model of the whole interval tooth honing process was established with an example of the rack and pinion, which lays the foundation of the interval tooth honing. This model took into consideration the rack addendum meshing process, the pinion addendum meshing process and the involute meshing process. The motion relationship of the rack and the pinion was analyzed, and boundary points of each process were deduced. Finally, the velocity curve of the gear processed was shown. Using the interval tooth meshing principle in honing is significant to increase the efficiency of honing and to improve the gear quality.
