Pavement Performance of Gap-graded Fiber Micro-surfacing

    • In order to study the effect of gap-graded to micro-surfacing performance, the relations of fiber content,asphalt-aggregate ratio with pavement performance of micro-surfacing were comparatively investigated under the conditions of European Union and Ohio gap-graded by wet wheel abrasion test and rut deformation test in this paper. Then texture depth test and seepage test were conducted for comparative analyzing the difference of skid resistance, water resistance performance of micro-surfacing in different gradations, which includes MS-3,EU and OH type gradations. The results show that rutting resistance of EU gap-graded fiber micro-surfacing is better than that of OH,but abrasion performance and water damage performance are opposite under the same conditions. The pavement performance of gapgraded micro-surfacing also satisfy regulatory requirements by comparing with continuous gradation. And anti-slide performance of EU is relatively better, while water sealing effect of OH is better. The pavement performance merits of gap-graded fiber micro-surfacing depends on fiber content and asphalt-aggregate ratio, which is the best after adding 0.10%to 0.25%fiber and 7.0%to 8.0%asphalt-aggregate ratios respectively.
