    Cultural and Poetic Analysis of "Courtyard and Balcony" Imagery in the Five Dynasties and Northern Song Dynasty's Ci

    • From the point of view of the cultural and poetic analysis, there is a great deal of "Courtyard and Balcony" imagery in the Five Dynasties and Northern Song's poetic genre. First of all, it reflects a typical condition of the Chinese feudal women, who were confined in a narrow and blocked world, segregated from the real nature and the crowded and complicated society. In many poetic works with male persons as the emotional hero, the courtyard and balcony imagery reflects the intelligentsia and officialdom's status as female, waiting upon the monarch just like the concubines. And it also mirrors the unique historical connotation of their inward puisuit for maintaining the integrity of characters. Throughout the literary history, this situation is protruding.
