US Perceptions of China's "Belt and Road Initiative"

    • Based on the studies of the US media, academies and think-tanks, the article finds that US perceptions of the purpose, potential impacts, viability and risks of China's "Belt and Road Initiative" (B&R) have undergone a shift from observation, wait-and-see to research and response. Many researchers in the United States think B&R is China's big strategy, and the United States should be more open to B&R, constructively participate in the process. But at the same time they have a high degree of vigilance that China may challenge the US-led international order. The author thinks China should strengthen dialogues and communications with the United States, establish Sino-US B&R demonstration projects, broaden the channels of cooperation, promote the innovation of the modes of cooperation between the two countries and build a Sino-US community of interests.
