Social Mentality behind the "Inverted Labeling"

    • According to the Labeling Theory, the defects of disadvantaged groups are usually not inherent, but the result defined by powerful groups who monopolize the social resource and the discourse right, namely,it is a process of labeling. In China's current social life, criticism from social consensus on "Second Generation of the Rich" and "Second Generation of the Official" shows a contrary logic. Ordinary people and even disadvantaged people are labeling powerful people,or it can be called "Inverted Labeling".Its strategy mainly contains "generalization of special cases" and "imagining of specific facts".The imbalance of social structure and social inequality are the social roots of "Inverted Labeling",while the internet provides the information dissemination channels for this discourse construction."Inverted Labeling" suggests that social mentality will be revealed more and more through the way of " resentful criticism",which abreacted a kind of " Imaginary Conquest" psychology. Rebuilding social mentality should be contained in the meaning of social construction, which requires the construction of a series of interests balance mechanism as a premise.
