Abstract
Panel data from 288 municipal cities across China from 2003 to 2020 was used to examine the impact of low-carbon city construction on the coordination of energy production and consumption coupling. It is found that: low-carbon city construction can positively promote the coordination of energy production and consumption in China by increasing the promotion pressure on local officials, promoting green technology innovation for enterprises, and the green transformation of residents' lives; the concern of local governments for energy security will weaken the promotion of low-carbon city construction in the coordination of energy production and consumption. The improvement of the coordination of renewable energy production and consumption does not mean that resource-based cities will lose their resource endowment, and they can form new development advantages in the process of continuously seeking energy transformation. Therefore, it is necessary to continue to strengthen the construction of low-carbon cities, coordinate energy security and green low-carbon development, accelerate the energy transformation of resource-based cities, and realize the optimization of China's energy spatial pattern.
