Bourdieu's Ritual Mystery: Analysis Based on Time Factors

Ritual research is the starting point of Bourdieu's academic career. During the field investigation in Algeria, he first paid attention to ritual phenomenon. Bourdieu analyzed ritual with practice, in which he found the key to solve the mystery of ritual for him. The key to solving the mystery of ritual lies in putting each behavior and symbol involved in ritual into the difference system again, and discussing ritual practice from the perspective of generative principle. Habitus, shaped by a specific social and historical situation, refers to the future in the past in a practical way, which also determines the practice principle of habitus to the social classification schema, and forms the strategy of doing things at that time. The time structure of Habitus contains interests. The fact that ritual activities are carried out in time series means that time economy plays an important role in ritual practice, and thus contributes to the formation of social order based on symbolic capital.
