Abstract:
As two main approaches to texture synthesis, pixel-based synthesis and patch-based synthesis are complementary to each other in terms of texture representation and distortion, Nealen and Alexa's hybrid texture synthesis(HTS) has achieved a good result by combining the advantages of the two approaches while avoiding many of their weaknesses. This paper presents a new approach for texture synthesis called "Pyramid-Based Improved Hybrid Texture Synthesis" based on HTS.The algorithm uses image pyramid and Ashikhmin's search strategy to preserve the global structure of texture and speed up the synthesizing process. In addition, a new method to accelerate the patch matching process by pre-computing the input texture are proposed.Compared with the HTS, the synthesizing process of the technique is significantly faster in average with the synthesis performance and is as good as HTS.
