Abstract:
Bulkwelding is often applied to hardfacing low carbon steels with a wear resistant alloy layer The purpose of this work is to improve the appearance of weld of this process. The results of surfacing test indicate that the appearance and hardness of the weld can be improved efficiently by adding silion and boron into alloy powder. The martensite will be formed by adding boron during the cooling process, which could increase the quenching degree. These hardfacings derive their abrasion resistance from a microstructure consisting of a dispersion of M
7C
3 carbides. The more dispersed the M
7C
3 carbides are, the higher hardness the deposit will reach.
