Abstract:
Reinforced concrete structures under severe dynamic loads may induce flexure,flexure-shear and direct shear failure modes.Among the above three failure modes, the most severe one is usually referred to direct shear that may fail by shear at the supports, where the plane of failure is nearly vertical and parallel to the loading direction. This mode occurs suddenly and abruptly without phenomena,so it is difficult to be observe. In order to forcast and simulate the dynamic responses and failure modes of the severe dynamic loaded reinforced concrete structures, the cracking model for concrete in the finite element software ABAQUS was adopted to simulate the dynamic responses and failure modes of the reinforced concrete structures. The numerical results were compared with the test data.It is demonstrated that the analytical results forcasted by the FEM way presented in this paper have a good agreement with the experimental observations.
