Abstract:
Precast columns have been widely applied in highways and urban bridge engineering in low seismicity areas. To promote the application of precast columns in high seismicity areas, researches and applications of the "emulative cast-in-place" precast columns were summarized in this study. From the aspects of connection technique, seismic performance and engineering application, current technique situation and research achievements were introduced. Several common connections of the precast columns based on grouted sleeve connection, grouted duct connection, and socket connection were included. Besides, future development trend of precast columns was pointed out. It is concluded that the "emulative cast-in-place" precast columns can meet the current design standards, thus can be easily promoted in engineering applications. When grouted sleeves were placed in the plastic hinge area of precast columns, seismic performance and length of plastic hinge zone of precast columns were different from the monolithic cast-in-place columns. Precast columns with grouted duct or socket connection can be applied in high seismicity areas if a dependable connection is guaranteed. High performance, light weight, high toughness and adaptability are future development directions for precast bridge columns.
