Abstract: Lin Ze-xu, as an important historical figure in the modern history of China, has always been followed with interest and studied earnestly by great many people at home and abroad. This paper, through introducing the evaluation on Lin Ze-xu of foreign people, especially the former governer-general to Hong Kong and concurrently envoy to China, reproduces Lin's personality charm, historical status and influence on the later generations, and simultaneously analyses his historical limit as a historical figure, so as to deepen our cognition to Lin's historical status.
