Abstract: The prosperity of short story in early Republic of China is correlated to the development of magazine. By studying The Short Story Magazine published between 1910 and 1920, the article concludes that the development of story magazine, not only provides the developing space of short story, but also promotes the style exploration of short story both in theory and practice. Mean-while, the translation of great many short stories from the western countries also promotes the grad-ual maturity of the short story.
