Abstract: It is believed in academia that scholars in the Southern Dynasties scarcely held monarch loyalty ideas in their mind. In this article, however, it is thought that some scholars at that time did have deep-rooted monarch loyalty idea in their mind for many reasons, such as the inertia effect from the traditional Confucian ethic of loyalty and filial duty, the pursuit of individual achievement, the public opinion and rulers' propaganda.
