Abstract: This paper proposes a modular teaching of English extensive reading for English majors from the perspective of instructional desiga Using the theories of applied linguistics and educational psychology, it examines the three variables-instructor, students and the contents-which affect the teaching; redefines the content variable; and divides the extensive teaching into four modules under the instructor's adjustment and control of the contents. The paper contends that such mode brings the initiative and creativity of the students into full play.
